| Richard Scherb, 1880-1955, was a pioneer of today's
gait analysis and muscle physiology. To commemorate his work the Scherb Award
is offered.

In remembrance of these two Swiss pioneers in Biomechanics the 18th ISB Congress is characterized by a retrospection of the origins of Biomechanics.
