Historical Remarks

Jürg Wartenweiler, 1915-1976, first President of the ISB, organized the First International Seminar on Biomechanics held in Zurich in 1967.

The new millenium of ISB Congresses will start at the same location - in Zurich, Switzerland.

Richard Scherb, 1880-1955, was a pioneer of today's gait analysis and muscle physiology. To commemorate his work the Scherb Award is offered.

In remembrance of these two Swiss pioneers in Biomechanics the 18th ISB Congress is characterized by a retrospection of the origins of Biomechanics.
